117.3 Million
The number of forcibly displaced people worldwide
_UNHCR Global Trends, 2024
The global refugee population has surpassed 100 million, with 30% residing in Sub-Saharan Africa. Half of the world’s refugees live without access to even 20 liters of water per day — the minimum standard required for a dignified life.
In refugee settlements across Africa, approximately 65% of households live without sanitation facilities. In schools located within refugee camps, more than 40% lack adequate toilets. Insufficient sanitation contributes to the spread of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. For women and girls in particular, it also increases the risk of sexual violence and becomes a barrier to continuing their education.
Refugees are people who left their homes carrying an extraordinary will to live. Team&Team provides the essential conditions for a life of dignity and lays the foundation for them to envision a better future.
How does Team&Team work?
We Place Refugee Rights First.
We ensure access to clean water and safe sanitation so that every refugee can live safely and with dignity, free from discrimination.
We Protect Refugee Children’s Right to Learn.
By supporting sanitation facilities and water access in refugee schools, we help children to continue learning without the risks of disease or absenteeism.
We Safeguard the Rights of Women and Girls.
We construct safe toilets and menstrual hygiene management facilities for women, and provide hygiene education so that girls can participate confidently in schools and communities.
We Look Beyond Emergency Response.
Beyond immediate relief in times of disaster and conflict, we support communities in managing their own facilities and building the foundation for sustainable livelihoods.
Building the Foundation for Dignity.
For those who are denied even the most basic rights, Team&Team provides the minimum conditions necessary for a life of dignity. By assessing the realities of refugee settlements and camps, we identify and construct the most urgently needed water and sanitation infrastructure. We also ensure that refugee residents and students actively participate in the process, fostering sustainable and lasting change.
Improving Access to Safe Water
To uphold refugee rights, we rehabilitate broken water supply facilities within refugee communities and install new water supply systems in refugee schools. We also construct large-capacity water supply systems and extend pipelines to nearby refugee villages, expanding access to safe water.
Menstrual Hygiene Support
For girls attending refugee schools, we provide reusable and disposable sanitary pads, soap, and other essential hygiene supplies. Beyond material support, we offer education to address misconceptions and stigma surrounding menstruation. Our goal is to ensure that girls are able to live safely during their menstrual periods, uphold their dignity, and continue participating confidently in school and community life.
Creating Sustainable Water and Sanitation Environments
We organize Water User Committees (WUCs) within villages and WASH Clubs in schools to ensure the systematic operation and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities. Centered around these groups, we implement hygiene behavior education, cleaning activities, and community campaigns — embedding healthy practices and fostering a sustainable water and sanitation environment.
Rapid Response
Even in times of disaster and public health crises, we respond swiftly to safeguard the dignity and well-being of refugees. We provide latrine construction materials to affected refugee households and offer training so that facilities can be maintained and repaired independently, ensuring long-term sustainability. During health emergencies such as COVID-19, we install emergency latrines and handwashing stations in quarantine facilities to prevent the spread of disease. At the same time, we establish sanitation infrastructure that remains usable beyond the crisis, strengthening the long-term resilience of the community.

Our Projects
Rhino and Imvepi Refugee Settlements, Uganda (2022–2024)
6,061 girls received menstrual hygiene education
The Rhino and Imvepi Refugee Settlements in Uganda faced severe shortages of school sanitation facilities due to the rapid influx of refugees. Over three years, Team&Team improved the learning environment through latrine construction, hygiene education for teachers and students, WASH Club activities, and menstrual hygiene support for girls. In particular, safe and hygienic facilities were established to ensure that girls could continue their education, even during menstruation.
Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya (2020–2021)
332 Household Latrines constructed
Kakuma Refugee Camp faced serious risks due to insufficient sanitation facilities and the spread of COVID-19. Over two years, Team&Team supported the protection of residents’ health and dignity through household latrine construction, hygiene education, and an emergency COVID-19 response.
